The style of the Van Volxem Riesling is very much in order to preserve the vineyards terroirs in the finished wines. However balance is always key, and ageing potential. The resulting wines are always, and seen here, conscientiously light in alcohol and very nourishing, deeply mineral wines that shimmer like you plucked a gemstone out of the dirt. The fruit is ever so Riesling – jasmine vines on a humid day, lemon curd, peach, they are warming, nourishing, and fill and cleanse the palate like essential oils clear the mind and nose. The fullness playing tango with the litheness, is very typical of wines in the style of the famous Saar wines from around 1900. We see it accompanying a swathe of potatoes, or perhaps a generous and well spiced papaya salad, definitely a friend to both spiced and rich foods.

At the heart of their philosophy are elaborate viticultural practices, ranging from natural, organic soil management to meticulous manual canopy management. In order to harvest very ripe, highly aromatic grapes, they limit the yield through a variety of measures such as green harvesting or grape bunch division to reduce the yield to about 40 hl/ha on average. Since 2001, the replanting of vines has been carried out predominantly with ungrafted vines.
